We are currently awaiting final genetic testing to confirm the diagnosis and treatment, but in the meantime, they are proceeding with starting the bone marrow transplant process.
Finding a donor – Ideally, the donor is a matched biological sibling, so in Teddy’s case, that means Nolan. If Nolan is a match, he is our best chance at a successful transplant and curing this issue, with a success rate of around 86%. Nolan has been tested, and we are waiting for the results to come back.
If Nolan isn’t a match, we will move to the national donor registry. With Teddy being a white male, the odds are about 90% that there is already a registered donor. Even with an unrelated donor, the odds of success are still good, around 80%.
